It’s holiday time and there’s no surprise that we’re being inundated with ads for gift ideas for our loved ones. It’s fair to say sometimes you get stumped on what to get your filmmaking/editing friends if you’re not in that space so from someone who has tested out a lot of gear and knows what will be helpful to your loved one, I offer my list of gift ideas for a video editor:

Bias Light ($17.75)

If your friend likes to edit in a dark room, the bias light will help reduce eye strain while not adding glare or mess with the screen when they’re color grading.

Logitech MX Master 3S ($99.99)

This mouse is good for all day use. It’s comfortable, reliable and a high-performance mouse. It also has a lot of customization with the Logitech app. They’ll love this!

Samsung T7 2 TB SSD ($149.99)

Editors always need hard drives. This is what holds all the footage they film or need to edit. Even if they aren’t doing the filming themselves, the footage that they would download from Dropbox or Google Storage to import into their projects, can sometimes be too large to fit on their computer. So. Hard drive.

Audio Editing Keyboards (Price Varies)

This is a keyboard that has all of the shortcuts for the specific editing software they use. Make sure you find out which software they work in as most software is not free and they are probably sticking to just one.

Depending on how new your loved one is to editing, I also recommend getting them a course specifically for the editing software they work in. Whether it’s for advanced features or just the basics, this is a thoughtful and personal touch and often it’s quite affordable too. We offer a DaVinci Resolve editing course as well as an iPhone Filmmaking Guide that teaches all the skills you need to level up your iPhone Camera game. Check it out if you’re interested and happy holidays!
