Have you ever thought how absolutely crazy it is that we trust hours and hours of work to little pieces of plastic?
I've been seeing people online talking about these SanDisk Drive failures and it breaks my heart seeing creators potentially lose data or have to spend thousands of dollars on data recovery.
While the worst case scenario for a lot of us may just be “Oh no I have to reshoot this YouTube video again by myself,” you then get into spaces like weddings where that is a Priceless shoot that you cannot redo. So for everyone throwing their SanDisk drives in the trash and going out to buy something new like the T7 drives from Samsung let me tell you something very important:
Do not trust any drive!
By the way that is not a bash against Samsung drives I've been using the Samsung T3, Samsung T5, and Samsung T7 Shield for years and I've never had a single one fail me. Ever!
The problem here is that so many people forget to transfer their footage to Dropbox or Google Drive then plan on moving the footage to a bigger drive. So much of the data loss happens in between those steps because you don't have time, you're rushing to finish the project, you don't have space on one of your drives because you didn't freed up from the last project you were working on. I used to be like this too!
When I got my first iMac I actually lost over 47 000 files including photos and documents from my childhood and early photography days that I will never get back but 13 years ago one of my favorite commercial photographers Chase Jarvis came out with this amazing workflow video that is still incredibly relevant today. Check it out and let me know if it changed your workflow too!
