Final Cut Pro 10.7 Update

Yesterday Apple came out with some software updates for fcpx. Here are the changes and what you need to know:

  • Scrolling timeline - This optional feature allows you to have the playhead remain in the middle of the timeline when zoomed in and your timeline will continue to scroll without you needing to continuously scroll with your mouse or trackpad.

  • Collapsable secondary timeline -  In the past you were able to collapse B-Roll shots, titles, or any asset above your main magnetic timeline down into the main layer. Now you can collapse everything above the magnetic timeline to the secondary video track, ultimately keeping your main timeline untouched.

  • Video Roles - Anyone who is a fan of organizing their timelines understands the benefits of roles. It easily gives you a visual guide to what everything within your project is doing. Audio roles have long been easily distinguished on the timeline but today video roles have gotten an update to where you can double click the audio waveform and it will showcase separate labels for the video portion of the clip from the audio track.

  • Enhanced Object Tracker - The object tracker within FCPX has been updated with a Machine Learning mode. This means you no longer will lose a track if the subject walks behind an object. Such as when the elephant walks behind the tree referenced in Dylan’s video.

  • Faster Export Times - If you are one a M chip enabled Mac you should notice a decent improvement to quicker export times for H.264/H.265 codecs.

This is the video I’m referring to from Dylan Bates the Final Cut Bro. Check it out below!
